After lots of paper work and a few kinks here and there, we finally bought our plane tickets and are Ghana bound on May 17th! We will be arriving in Accra May 18th and spending the next 6 weeks doing a 1-Year Mortality study on birth defects (concentrating on NTDs/Spina Bifida). Our thesis advisor, Dr. Godfrey Oakley, has reminded us multiple times that we don't need to worry. Things will more than likely fall through when we get there and we will learn to improvise and adjust... so Hakuna Matata, just expect to run into the unexpected. Thankfully I have logged many hours watching The Office and Michael Scott has prepared me well to improvise.
Details of our trip are still being planned. A few other classmates from Emory will be in Ghana this summer, so we will have a fun group to hang out and travel with.
More updates to come!
Hakuna Matata!
