Road to Accra, Ghana

This summer Lael Reinstatler and I will be going to Accra, Ghana through Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health to work with the the University of Ghana Medical School. Our main focus will be to gather data on newborn infants and determine the 5-year survival rate of these children. Lael will be focused on children with birth defects and my focus will be on premature births. In addition to our work with the medical school, we will be working with Sophie's Voice Foundation to help build a clinic and work on folic acid fortification and neural tube defect(spina bifida) prevention.
We are creating this blog to keep family and friends updated with the progress of our trip and also provide information to others who may be interested in Ghana or other overseas medical trips in the future.
Ghana 2010 is in the beginning stages and lots of exciting details are to come, so check back as we will frequently update as the details of our trip progress.
